Study of the Research Area

The course «Study of Research Field» aims to deepen students’ research specialization and prepare them for defining the topic of their master’s thesis. It focuses on the systematic study of the Cybersecurity field, the identification of research gaps, and the development of a fully documented research framework that will support the next stage of the research process.

Main Topics

The General Competences that students should have acquired include:

  • Search, analysis, and synthesis of data and information, using the necessary technologies
  • Adaptation to new situations
  • Decision-making
  • Independent work
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Generation of new research ideas

Based on the above, upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:

  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate relevant literature.
  • Critically synthesize findings from various sources and recognize trends and challenges.
  • Formulate research questions and hypotheses based on well-documented analysis.
  • Select and justify appropriate methodologies for their research area.
  • Develop a coherent research proposal plan with a clear theoretical and methodological framework.
  • Present and defend their research plans orally to an academic audience.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand in depth the structure, trends, and research priorities of the Cybersecurity field.
  • Know the principles and techniques of systematic literature review.
  • Understand the process of identifying research gaps and linking them to theoretical frameworks.
  • Be aware of key ethical, legal, and deontological issues related to research in Cybersecurity.
  • Understand the characteristics and applications of research methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed).

Students will be able to:

  • Work independently and design an original research project.
  • Develop and document new research frameworks of knowledge.
  • Apply research ethics and standards of academic integrity.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors and research teams.
  • Connect theoretical findings with practical applications in the field of Cybersecurity.
