UMA Presents EU-INSPIRE Master's Pathways at International and National Events !

In recent weeks, Dr. Cristina Alcaraz of the University of Málaga (UMA) assisted in the dissemination of EU-INSPIRE’s Master’s programmes and microcredentials. Through a series of meetings with students, the goal was to inform a diverse audience, both nationally and internationally, about the educational content and career pathways these programmes offer.

The activities began on July 14 at the “Intensive Programme on Information , Communications and Security” (IPICS) Summer School, held in Lesvos, Greece (see IPICS). This long-standing event brought together professionals to discuss current trends in security and privacy. During her participation, Dr. Alcaraz delivered a presentation on “Security in Digital Twins,” addressing technical challenges in protecting virtual replicas of physical systems (see IPICS Programme). At the end of her talk, she provided information on the EU-INSPIRE training initiative to attendees, presenting the Master’s programmes as a potential pathway for professional development. She highlighted that these programmes aim to complement technical training with broader skills required to address complex cybersecurity challenges.

Upon returning to Spain, Dr. Alcaraz continued these efforts on July 16 at the “Cyber Bootcamp Málaga” at UMA, an event organized by the NICS Lab in collaboration with Google (see Cyber Bootcamp Málaga ). The bootcamp brought together over 100 participants from various regions of Spain, providing an opportunity to present the EU-INSPIRE programmes to a wide range of students.

Specifically, the Master’s programmes were introduced to two distinct groups with differing levels of technical background. The first group, consisting of students with advanced training in engineering and cybersecurity, was informed about the programme’s technical modules and potential opportunities. The second group, comprising students from interdisciplinary fields such as industrial engineering, mathematics, law, psychology, and criminology, received an overview of the initiative’s key aspects and was encouraged to explore further training should their interests align with the subject matter.

Through these activities, the EU-INSPIRE programmes have reached a broader spectrum of potential students at both the national and international levels.

The cybersecurity landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Emerging threats, the rapid integration of artificial intelligence into critical systems, and a shifting geopolitical environment have made the demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals more urgent than ever.

That is precisely what EU-iNSPIRE was built to deliver and we are thrilled to announce that Expressions of Interest for the EU-iNSPIRE Master Programmes are now officially open.

All programmes are:

Fully aligned with the European Cybersecurity Skills Framework (ECSF), as defined by ENISA
Designed in compliance with the regulatory landscape
Developed collaboratively across consortium members spanning academia, research, and the private sector — ensuring that every module reflects the challenges that cybersecurity professionals face today

A comprehensive, technically grounded programme for learners seeking deep expertise in areas such as network security, AI-powered cybersecurity, cyber threat intelligence, and cybersecurity in industrial scenarios. EU‑iNSPIRE at 'Standards Unboxed' event: Advancing Cybersecurity Education Through Standardisation

Standardisation and cybersecurity education share common ground. The “Standards Unboxed” event in Nicosia, Cyprus brought this connection into focus and provided a meaningful platform for EU‑iNSPIRE to share its vision with students, researchers, and professionals from across the ecosystem.

Co‑organised by the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS) and the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, the “Standards Unboxed” event was held within the framework of the EU Horizon Europe project EDU4Standards. The event brought together students, researchers, academics, and professionals in an open and engaging dialogue around the strategic importance of standardisation in supporting innovation, competitiveness, and technological progress.

As the need for interoperability, security, and trust becomes increasingly critical in digital environments, standardisation is emerging as a key enabler of innovation, ensuring that new technologies can be safely adopted and scaled across markets. Events such as this one play an important role in making this dimension visible, particularly to the next generation of professionals who will be tasked with designing and securing Europe’s digital infrastructure.

Within this context, the EU‑iNSPIRE project was presented by Dr. Stefanos Gurov from CYS, who introduced participants to the project’s mission and its multidisciplinary approach to cybersecurity education in Europe, bringing together technical, organisational, and policy perspectives with a strong focus on upskilling and reskilling.

Dr. Gurov’s presentation highlighted how standardisation is not an external layer added on top of cybersecurity education, but standards are naturally embedded in the project’s educational approach, helping learners understand how European and international frameworks shape secure and trustworthy digital systems. By linking standards, regulation, and everyday cybersecurity practice, the discussion made clear how standardisation helps turn knowledge into practical, industry‑ready skills.

EU-iNSPIRE Prepares to Launch Microcredentials Programme Across 14 Cybersecurity Domains

The EU-iNSPIRE project is excited to announce the upcoming launch of the EU-iNSPIRE Microcredentials, a new initiative led by the EU-iNSPIRE Center of Excellence (CoE) designed to makecybersecurity education accessible to learners and professionals across Europe.

What are microcredentials? Microcredentials are short, focused qualifications that are completed in a matter of days to a few weeks. They certify the acquisition of specific knowledge, skills, and competencies in a defined area. Unlike full degree programmes, they offer a flexible and targeted learning path, ideal for those seeking to update or broaden their expertise without committing to a long-term academic programme.

As part of the broader EU effort to close the cybersecurity skills gap, the EU-iNSPIRE microcredentials are intended to align with European frameworks for qualifications and skills.

Three Levels, One Journey, The EU-iNSPIRE microcredentials will be offered at three progressive experience levels — Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced — enabling learners to start from their current level of expertise and build towards mastery at their own pace.

Fourteen Domains Covered,The programme spans 14 topic areas that reflect the full breadth of cybersecurity topics:

From foundational concepts like network security and privacy, to cutting-edge fields such as AI-cybersecurity integration and secure autonomous systems, the programme addresses both the technical and strategic dimensions of the cybersecurity landscape.

Who Is This For? The EU-iNSPIRE microcredentials are tailored for two key audiences: students seeking to complement their academic journey with recognised, practical cybersecurity credentials, and working professionals who wish to expand or validate their expertise in one or more specialised domains. Students can use microcredentials to build a recognised skillset of cybersecurity competencies alongside their degree, while professionals can advance their career in a rapidly evolving field.

Offered by the EU-iNSPIRE Center of Excellence, The microcredentials will be delivered through the EU-iNSPIRE Center of Excellence, the project’s dedicated institution for practice-oriented cybersecurity education. The CoE brings together experts from academic institutions and industry partners across the EU-iNSPIRE consortium, including universities, research institutes, and organisations from across Europe.
